Free Vallejo, Lifecolor and Xtracrylix paints

Extra Special Paint Offer - How it works

If you purchase 5 or more Vallejo, LifeColor or Xtracrylix paints, we will add in 5 more pots free. Buy your paints and then add a further 5 to the list. Your basket will show the total value of the order including the 5 free ones. Your confirmation e-mail will show the same total. When we process and ship your order we will adjust the credit card charge accordingly. If you paid by Paypal, we will refund the difference when we ship.
You cannot mix and match manufacturers.

Unfortunately, due to the cost of shipping paint overseas, we have had to reduce the number of free pots to 3 when shipping outside of the UK so if you do not live in the UK, please ensure that you only add 3 pots to your order.

Your Savings

5 Vallejo paints are worth £9.25.
3 Vallejo paints are worth £5.55.
5 Lifecolor paints are worth £11.25.
3 Lifecolor paints are worth £6.90.
5 Xtracrylix paints are worth £9.95.
3 Xtracrylix paints are worth £5.97.

Please note that we no longer have full stocks of Lifecolor paints - we only have those shades shown on our web site.

Personally, I can't wait for the 1/72nd Dora - at 1.3 metres long, this is an absolute beast!

As usual, we will remind you that, so long as you do not pay by Paypal, you will not be charged until we ship. If you do pay by Paypal, please be aware that Paypal charge your card immediately you confirm the sale.

Housekeeping

Nothing exciting - just news about us

SBX Model Shop
This was our shop in the Norwich Road, Ipswich. We have finally decided to close the shop down and concentrate on Mail Order and Internet business. All model shops depend upon the 'hoarder' to a certain extent. Given the huge range of kits available, it is pretty impossibole, unless you have huge premises or a deep pocket, to cover much of the available range of kits - let alone all the ancilliary items such as paints, glues etc. Hence, the bulk of shop sales come from people buying for 'the loft monster'. This means that they are only really interested in new releases, which is easy to manage. However, following the 'credit crunch' this business disappeared and people were only buying kits that they wanted. With the attendant drop in casual sales, we found that we were trying hard to justify keeping the shop open for paints and glues.

We are now set up for a faster turnaround of orders - either telephoned or through the web site. It will also mean that we have more time to concentrate on the web site. We intend to develop a range of special offers that will make dealing with SBX a better and more satisfying experience.

Call us on our new telephone number - 01473 785327 - or through the web site at www.sbxmodels.co.uk.

Web Site security
There has been a lot going around about credit card security when dealing with on-line shops so we thought is was a good time to tell you about our arrangements.

Firstly, when adding your credit card to your details on our web site, the whole process is protected by a secure link between your browser and our server. It has never been know for this procedure to be compromised.

Secondly, we then encrypt your credit card using high quality encryption methods so that what is stored on our system is unrecognisable as a credit card number.

Next, we have set our networks up so that the server that stores our user information is not connected to the internet making it impossible for hackers to reach the data - even if they could get through the firewall.

Lastly, we do NOT process any credit cards electronically. All card payments are processed at the time that we ship the goods and are processed through a credit card terminal provided by HSBC Merchant Services.

We believe that this ensures that your card details - plus any other personal information that we store - is kept as secure as is possible. You can deal with us over the internet in complete confidence.

TriStar Masking Tape

3mm £0.99p
5.9mm £1.35
17.8mm £2.35
30mm £3.25

They come on a roll so there is no dispenser. However, this is a significant saving on Tamiya tape - for instance, the 6mm Tamiya tape costs £4.25 per roll!

Not much this week - but let's look at the Dragon Meteor

New Arrivals
The latest list of new arrivals is up on the web site but it is mostly decals and Tamiya re-issues. To have a look, go HERE.

Dragon Meteor

The new Dragon/Cyberhobby Meteor III in 1/72nd scale is proving to be very popular and on inspection, is a very nicely moulded kit. Experts we know have stated that it is the most accurate Meteor around at the moment. However,, at £26.99, it is very expensive for a 1/72nd scale kit. In current terms, though it is competitive with new Hasegawa kits so maybe we have a new base line price point (unfortunately).

Iwata Airbrushes
This is almost the last chance to benefit from our amazing 15% OFF offer which must expire on 30th September. We must be the cheapest around so don't miss out on the chance of a new, 10 year guaranteed genuine Iwata unit. This offer also applies to Compressors. best of all, if you buy an airbrush and a compressor as a set, you will get an additional discount. All of this with our usual Worldwide FREE Delivery!

Web Site Specials
We are close to the end of our web specials. For the list of remaining kits and accessories at half price - yes 50% discount, go to our Specials Page

That's all for now.
Keep checkiong the blog and the website.

Mig Jimenez Branches out - plus upcoming 1/32nd B-25!

AK Interactive
This is a new company formed by Fernando Vallejo and Mig Jiminez that is building up a range of weathering materials plus books and DVDs. This is the current list.

AKBOOK1  Book - Diorama Addicted 74 Pages £19.99
AKDVD01 DVD Washes, Filters and Oils £14.99
AK00011 White Spirit £4.75
AK00012 Streaking Grime £4.75

AK00016 Fresh Mud £4.75

If the DVD is as good as the recently released Vallejo DVD on Acrylic finishes then it ought to be superb! The weathering materials are all enamel based and the DVD covers how to use these to their best effect, in depth.

We are so sure that these will be very wanted that we are helping the launch with three of special offers.
Offer 1 - A full set of AK filters (all 7 bottles - retail £33.35) £29.00 with free delivery
Offer 2 - Offer 1 plus the DVD (retail £$58.24) £53.00 with free delivery.

Summer Madness offers

News
on

5% Off - Everything (except Iwata - see below)

We have a special promotion running until 31st August 2010. Everything on the web site is reduced by at least 5%. The price is shown against each item is the reduced price. Amazingly, our FREE Delivery worldwide is also applicable, so we must be the best value around if you live outside the UK. Please note that we still have to charge £2.00 delivery on any total purchase of £6.00 or under - because of the heavy cost of shipping small items through the Royal Mail.

15% off Iwata
If you thought that 5% was a good offer, with Free Delivery,
then this must be the best offer ever!

15% of everything Iwata - that is Airbrushes, Compressors and all spares.

We already give a discount when you buy an Airbrush and Compressor together and the 15% is in addition to that.

Example:
Iwata Eclipse CS Airbrush - list price £129.99 - Our price £110.50.
Iwata Sprint Jet Compressor - list price £190.00 - Our price £161.50
Total for both items = £272.00
Purchase them both together as a 'combo' - Our price £254.99 against a list price for both items purchased separately of £319.99

This is in addition to our Free Worldwide delivery - however, please note that if you do order a Compressor and live outside of the UK, we may have to adjust the cost because of the very expensive shipping costs imposed by the main carriers on heavy items. This extra charge will not normally exceed £30. Please contact us before ordering to get an exact quotation.

Specials

We are having a bit of a clear out so we have a nice list of special offers on kits and some accessories.

Check out our Specials Page with 1/3 off everything listed - Yup, that's right - 1/3 OFF!

Please note that there is generally only one of each item so when they are gone - they are GONE!

Lastly - Web Site Upgrades - again

We have done a lot more work on the web site and hopefully you are finding it easier to use and navigate.

Paypal - The biggest change is that we have gone back to accepting Paypal for payments. We stopped this some time ago because we weren't too happy about having you pay before we have shipped the item, given that sometimes, even when we think we can ship it, we find that there is no stock. However, we have done a lot of work in updating the
projected shipping date of everything on the web site and we now give you a very clear indication if an item is not going to ship in 2 - 3 days, which is our normal target.

When you look at your basket, the system checks the current stock availability of every item you have added. It not only checks our stock but also that of our wholesalers. If you do see an Out of Stock or Future Release indicator then you can either keep the item in the basket and we will ship as soon as we can, or you can delete it.

Remember, though, that if you pay by credit card, we do NOT debit your card until we are about to ship. However, with Paypal, they charge your card immediately and pass the payment to us so please bear that in mind if you do purchase Out of Stock or Future Release items.

We are working on improving our systems so in the next few weeks we will be updating the e-mail contact system and thus should be giving you an e-mail within 2 weeks of your order reminding you of Out of Stock and Future Releases. You can, of course, cancel any outstanding order just by e-mailing us.

New Arrivals, Blogs and Twitter
Every week we update the site for all the newly released items. This is available from the New Arrivals link on the home page.

We also update the Shop Blog with comments, ideas, hints and tips. The blog is here.

Twitter is a bit of a mystery to us but we have recently started to Tweet(!) news to our Twitter page.

Lastly, don't forget David's increasingly popular modelling Blog. Follow his mistakes, errors and successes at Gentle Scale Modelling

That's all for now

Don't forget, if you wish to unsubscribe from this e-mails, contact Sales with 'Unsubscribe' in the Subject.

We never pass any e-mail or personal details to any third party for any reason whatsoever.

Two Sea Kings and other stories

Story of Two Sea Kings
Web Site Redesign - again!
New Arrivals, Blogs and Twitter

A Story Of Two Sea Kings

Why is it when you wait for a long time, two come up together. It works for buses. Now it works for Sea Kings.

Firstly, although only a reboxing with some new sprues, Airfix have
released their Westland Sea King HAS Mk.2/ASaC.Mk.7 in 1/72nd.

At £10.44 (after our current 5% discount) this is good value, which is
more than can be said for the other one.

Hasegawa prices are becoming an international talking point - something that is amply demonstrated by their new Seaking HAR.3 RAF Rescue.

This is a first in 1/48th - a real Westland HAR.3 with all the right bits. However, at £66.49 (£69.99 less discount) , many will feel that they can wait a bit longer. If you can't then what you get is a nicely moulded kit - albeit in bright yellow plastic, plus two decal variants, both dating from 1992. Those of you in the local club in Ipswich who were hoping for modern Wattisham decals will be disappointed. I guess we have to wait for Xtradecal to do a whole sheet to cover all current aircraft. Mind you that will add another £8 - £10 to the cost, making this a determined purchase. A point of interest - quite what the torpedoes are doing in the kit is anyone's guess.

Web Site Redesign

Further changes will be appearing this week. The three main changes are as follows:

If you put in some keywords and they only match one item, you will be taken straight to the single item, rather than to the search results list - and then select the single item. Just a small change but it adds to the convenience.

The search results page, at long last, will have alternating background colours so that you can see each entry more clearly.

The search results page will have a check box at the end of each item
line. If you know that you want to buy the item, then click on the
check box and then click on the button at the bottom of the page to
buy. Not too useful for a single item but if you want to buy, say, 10
Xtracolor enamels, then this is an easy way to do it.

New Arrivals, Blogs andTwitter

Oh what a long list of new arrivals this week. We are almost spoiled for choice. I will mention only a few so please check out the New Arrivals link on the home page.

At long last there has been a delivery of Bronco kits so we are now shipping all
of the back orders for Comets, Bailey Bridges and Cruiser A13 tanks.
However, the really good news is that we can now ship CB35035 - The

WWII Triumph motor bike and CB35051 - the Adler Radio car.
Bronco Triumph
Kits World decals are a new one on us. These are a range of 1/72 and 1/48 decals
for USAAF  aircraft. Examples are KW48001 and KW72001.

Dragon has a list of new releases including a new
Tiger I - DN6600 - Pz.Kpfw.VI
Ausf.E Tiger 1 Initial Production

s.Pz.Abt 502 Mishkino 1943.

AZM48040 - Grumman Widgeon

A quick run down on some of the other items:

HB80355 - a 1/48th ADV Tornado

K48028 - A Block 52 Hellenic F-16

K48029 - A Block 60 UAE F-16

Every week we update the site for all the newly released items. This is available from the New Arrivals link on the home page.

We also update the Shop Blog with comments, ideas, hints and tips. The blog is here.

Twitter is a bit of a mystery to us but we have recently started to Tweet(!) news to our Twitter page.

Some good news

Firstly, we have an apology-

About 10 days ago, the web site had a major issue when trying to purchase the items in your basket. This manifested itself as a time out when trying to finalise the transaction. As we do not
charge your card as part of the online process - only when we ship - there was no security risk, however, some people did fail to get their orders processed.

We finally tracked this down to a problem with printers on the system. Once this was cleared, the web site returned to normal.

If you did have a problem at that time, please try again - we are offering you two GREAT reasons to come back to us soon.

In this issue

Father's Day Iwata Special
5% Discount on the Web Site
Web Site Redesign
New Arrivals, Blogs and Twitter

Father's Day 20th June 2010

As part of our celebrations for Father's day (David has four kids so it's always a good day for him), we are offering a very special discount on everything Iwata up until 30th June.

What better Father's day gift than a new airbrush, or even a new airbrush/compressor combination. We have always offered a discount when you buy a compressor and an airbrush as a combination but it just got even better.

15% of all Iwata items including airbrushes, compressors and combination packs.

Examples

Iwata Eclipse Airbrush - Recommended retail price £129.99 - now £110.49 - that's a saving of £19.50!

Iwata Sprint Jet Compressor - Recommended retail price £190.00 - now £161.50 - that's a saving of £28.50!

Both together when bought individually have a total RRP of £319.99 -  our combination price is  £242.91 - that's a saving of £77.08 and a massive 24% OFF!

FREE worldwide delivery still applies!

5% off Everything else on the web site

As of now, and valid until at least 31 July 2010, we are giving you a 5% discount off everything on the web site (except for Iwata items - see above). This discount is applied automatically. You will see your savings in the description of any item you browse. Needless to say, this is in addition to our already famous FREE Worldwide delivery*.
*(Sorry but anything totalling £6 or below is charged at £2 - this is because of the way that the UK Royal Mail charges for its small packets)

Web Site Redesign

We have just released the first part of our re-designed web site. We hope that you like the clean new look. Over the next couple of days we will be rolling out all of the remaining pages so that the whole thing will be a better experience. Built in to the site is a feature that checks both the stock situation with us and with our suppliers. This means that if we don't have it and they do, we will confirm the availability. As we order almost daily, even if the item has to be supplied to us, it will still mean a fast delivery to you - and still FREE!

If we state that an item is out of stock then this is because neither we nor our wholesalers have the item. In that case if you place it on your order, we will ship it as soon as it becomes available.

New Arrivals, Blogs and Twitter

Vallejo Polyurethane Primer

Tamiya Magazine extolled the virtues of the new Vallejo primer which the editor obtained at Nuremburg. It has taken some time for it to arrive but we now have it in stock. I thought you might like to know what it is like. It comes in three colours and two sizes. There is a choice of 60ml (£4.95) and 200ml (£9.99) in White, Grey or Black. Black, I assume, is for the Games Workshop crowd where they always recommend a black base for all figure painting. Not sure that I agree but there we are. This leaves a choice of White or Grey so I decided to try both.

So far I can't talk about toughness. This report is purely about its application to a model. I had two items that needed priming - a 1/10th scale bust in resin and a 1/48the Hasegawa F-16I Sufa. I decided to prime the F-16 with white and the figure with grey. the F-16 is getting Israeli camo so it will have a light coloured underside so white seemed the best choice. As the figure is a German Feldgendarme in a rubberised German Grey/Green colour, the grey seems ideal/ The grey went on like a dream. It is very much lighter than my usual favourite - Vallejo Model Air grey. It also covered easily in one coat and when on quite thin. The white wasn't quite such a good experience. I found that it needed a couple of coats to cover - even to the level seen in the photo below. I also found that I needed to thin the primer half way through. It seemed to thicken up as I went. It also didn't want to be misted on so gave quite a wet finish. However, after letting both dry thoroughly, I can't really tell any difference between them except for the lack of complete cover from the white. I will let you know how I got on with durability once I start painting the figure. It is very easy to rub primer off a resin figure as you turn it around to paint it - we shall see.

Sorry for the big gap

We have been very busy updating all of our systems to match our wholesaler's new web site so we have got a bit behind with the blog. Check out the news of a very special offer at the end of this blog entry.

The new arrivals page has been updated  Click Here

There have not been too many mainstream new kits recently. The Xtrakit Swift has been a very good seller whilst the new MPM Gloster Meteor PR.10 has alsmost sold out in its 1st week. Airfix continue to delight and irritate in that they release new mouldings, which are very good, and then release 'ancient' kits at the same time. However, if you want a 1/72 Petliakov Pe-2 or a Blohm und Voss Bv 141B then this is the only way to go and, I am sure that you will be happy just to get them.

Testors Modelmaster Enamel paints are now available ex-stock so if you are a fan of these paints, try us.

Iwata airbrushes and compressors are still on 10% discount with worldwide FREE shipping so now maybe the time to get into airbrushing using the best (but not always the dearest) or upgrade your existing airbrush system.

With our new systems we are close to releasing the following on the web site. Look out for the launch date:
1. An account lookup which will enable you to check on the status of your outstanding orders
2. Live stock control that will give you an accurate delivery indication on any item you look up.

We are working on a new feature that will enable you to add to the basket from the search result page. This will make it easier, for instance, to purchase multiple pots of paint. We will let you know when this is available.

Special Offer
We are having a clearance of some kits from the shop. These will all be available at 25% discount, still with free delivery. We hope to have the list of them available by the end of this week so WATCH THIS SPACE!

Update for 17th April

Well, getting back to normal took longer than we thought. Only now are we beginning to see deliveries come through as before. However, once we have completed our software updates, you should see improved shipping information with every item. It will take about another 7 days but we will tell you when it happens.

IWATA Airbrushes
We thought it my be time to remind you that we are fully authorised Iwata agents and are able to ship worldwide. Our expreience in using these airbrushes for all forms of modelling is extensive and we are always willing to advise on the perfect choice, be it the £35 Prem-Air airbrush (included here because it is manufactured by the UK Iwata Importer) of the top of the range Iwata items.
 Iwata Revolution TR0 - £169.69 (List Price £186.99)
Remember that you are always going to get a good deal on Iwata - currently, the deal is 10% discount on all Airbrushes and Compressors saving you around £15 - £18 on the HP-CH or the very popular Revolution Trigger airbrushes (shown here). One happy customer today saved £47 on a TR0/Smart Jet Compressor Combo.
Now this is unusual

We had a delivery this week that included a few Fujimi F7U-3 Cutlass kits in 1/72nd - see it here. Now I haven't made a Cutlass since I was about 15 so this brought back memories. At £12.99 it is an excellent kit of an unusual aircraft.

New Arrivals

New Arrivals and other News

Firstly, let us apologise for the lack of news over the last couple of weeks. One of our main suppliers has been re-working their web site and this has resulted in them not keeping their new arrivals up to date. Also, the changes to their web site required a change to our software which has taken some time to implement. However, our forthcoming software release will provide better information when searching and give you an accurate shipping date on most of the items we list.

Some Special New Arrivals
Airfix
Airfix has launched their HMS Illustrious Gift Set. This is a very impressive set comprising an accurate 1:350th scale through deck carrier plus all the paints and glue that is required to complete the job. It is priced at £49.99 and seems to be worth every penny. Please note that due to the size of the box, we will not be able to ship this item outside of the UK for free. If you are interested in purchasing it and live overseas, please contact us for a delivery quotation. Click on the image to see the item

Testors Limited Editions
We have seem a list of new kits arrive from testors. We have yet to open a box so cannot comment on the quality but will be doing so if the next few days so 'watch this space!'

Revell
We now have stocks of their new 1:72nd scale RV4693 Hawker Fury which looks like being very popular.

Bad news regarding postage.
The Royal Mail has recently increased their postal charges and this is making our free delivery service very expensive for us. Due to the way that the Royal Mail charges for post, sending anything that is under £6 in price is now very costly against the cost of the kit. hence, we have had to start charging £2 for any sale that totals £6 or under. This charge is mentioned when your basket is below the minimum and the postal charge is added at the final check out. Please consider purchasing another item to take you over the the £6 limit as this will represent much better value for you.

Pipettes
Now these are very useful when airbrushing or just mixing paint. One of our regular shop customers - Reece - has presented us with substantial number of 3ml pipettes. They are similar to this:

Whilst stocks last, we shall be including 3 of these in every mail order and internet delivery that we make. It will happen automatically, so there is no need to ask. If you don't get some, then we have run out. Sorry.

Change to our web site

We recently made a change to the web site so that you could go straight to the New Arrivals page, using a link in the Blog, and start building a basket from there. This has worked so well that we have now extended to web site to enable you to do the same for linking through to an individual item.

To show how this works, try the following:

This will click you straight through to this item on the web site and create a basket for you.

Please let me know what you think, along with any other comments about the current web site. As we write the softweare for the website, we can normally accommodate additional features fairly easily.

News for 6th March 2010

First off, we now have a Twitter account. We are trying to put anything new on there first - SBX Twitter.

Secondly, we have a section on IPMS Locate and Cement.

New Arrivals and News -20th February 2010

Well, if it was hard last week to find some interesting
'stuff' then this week is even harder - unless you are into MGBs
that is. As the new arrivals list is so short, we have included
all the new release decals to make it look a bit longer. The best
news this week is that the Marivox range of 1/72nd Swedish topics
is available again.

New Arrivals and News -13th February 2010

Not too much of excitement this week. It has been difficult to select new items to feature here.

Academy are releasing some interesting, if not exciting, models over the last few weeks and this week is no exception. Two of note are as follows:

AC13221 - M4A3E8 Easy Eight WWII Korea (with Master Box figs).
This one is following the trend with both Tamiya and others of including some Eastern Europe made figures in their armour or aircraft sets. This kit is a nice combination centred on the Korean War and is good value at £24.99.

AC12422 F/A-18D Hornet US Marines (twin-seat) £18.99
Another very nice Marines Corp Hornet at what is seen nowadays as a 'reasonable' price for a quality 1/72nd scale kit (how times have changed!).

Web Site News
Well, the new facility for re-using an existing credit card seems to have worked well and is liked by everyone. The next step is to provide a look up on existing orders. We are hoping to implement this over the next two weeks. This will give you a list of all your outstanding items along with expected shipping dates.

We have completed our testing on the weekly newsletter so look out for that to be arriving over the next few days. If you haven't signed up for it, send me an e-mail (david@sbxmodelshop.co.uk) and I will add you to the list. Expect some great special offers.
We are planning on two great offers over the coming few weeks.
  • One will probably be a paint offer along the lines of 'buy x bottles and get y bottles free'.
  • Another will be rather special. Along with our of our suppliers, we will be offering a range of special sets comprising a kit (starting with the Hobby Boss range) and all the attendent Eduard etched and masks. These sets will start at around 15% discount of the retail price but we are hoping to make that 20% on some sets.
Incidentally, we are expecting to be able to offer Testors Model Master enamels soon - this is a great range of FS matched paints that have a huge reputation in the US and will now be available for worldwide shipment from us - without the purchase of a kit, of course.

That's all for this week. Check out the weekly list of new arrivals here!

New Arrivals and News - 8th February 2010

Well, we have a blockbuster this week. Xtrakit's release of a 1/72 Supermarine Swift FR.5 has had a tremendous impact. It looks to be a very nice kit and extremely cleanly moulded. It is probably moulded by Sword, which means no alignment pins but apart from that, this should be a good one. Plus the nice clean 50's camo. One of our shop regulars pointed out that the aircarft on the box has two (yes 2) squadron markings on it. It appears to be that the remnants of 4 Squadron merged with 79 Squadron hence the 4/79 label and both Squadron's markings on the aircraft. At £17.99, these are flying out the door so I guess the first delivery won't last long - memories of the Supermarine Scimitar some months back.

The second kit is the new Academy Admiral Graf Spee. Limited Edition which includes a wooden deck, photo-etch, brass gun barrels, nameplate and brass chain. At £79.99 it's not cheap but it looks like being quite special.

News of the Web Site. There have been two major changes to the web site.
1. We have now removed the Paypal option from the site for the reasons we explained last week. We are unhappy to be taking money for items before we ship the goods. This is especially important now that we are listing more future releases.
2. We have amended the Credit Card process. If there is a credit card on your file, you are reminded of this with a reference to the last four digits of the card number. If you wish to use this card, then you can and the sale completes. If you wish to change the card, just click on the new card button and enter the new details. If you currently have a valid credit card on file with us, this is much faster than the Paypal process. Just to remind you, we have an encoding process that we use on all credit card numbers that renders them unusable until we decode them. This means you can give us your card without worries.

Changes to come on the site.
For some time, we have been looking at giving you the option of looking at your current outstanding orders. We have an advanced ordering system built into our software that works closely with our suppliers' web sites. We shall be adding a new login option for existing users which will enable you to see your orders and the current state of availability. This will take a week or so to arrive but we are sure that you will find it helpful.

Don't forget David's modelling blog at http://www.gsmblog.co.uk where he is currently struggling with a 1/48th Monigram Catalina.
